2004 Wrap-Up
Half Marathon: Matthew Laye, 22, of Davis finishes in the second fastest time at the Davis Stampede Half Marathon in the past 6 years. Second only to Scott Kennedy’s finish in 1999, Laye won in 1:09:57. Scott Young of Reno finished second in 1:14:49. Top male finishers from Davis also included Paul Cox, 40, (1:23:10) and Steve Young, 31, (1:23:31). In the Women’s race, local standout Jen Pfiefer of Folsom captured the win in 1:23:26. Kristi Arthur of Reno finished second in 1:24:02. Top female finishers from Davis included Esther Prins (1:35:00) and Angie Hart (1:35:45).
10K: Matthew Wise, 24, of Berkeley finished first in 33:14. Behind him were Cheyne Inman of Vacaville (33:35) and Ryan Nickel (34:11) from Sacramento. Tanya Fredericks held on to her title as she won the 10K again, this time in 38:41. Fredericks was followed by Nancy Rashid of Davis (40:27) and Rocklin’s Lori Wray (40:41). Top Davis standouts in the men’s race included Ryan Gold (34:54) and Justin Lakin (37:32). Cindi Parente (42:58) and Leah Lundy (44:29) were top Davis finishers in the women’s 10K.
5K: Records were broken in the 5K this year, with both the top male and female setting the record for fastest finishes in the Davis Stampede 5K. For the men, Kyle Watson of Stockton set the new record in 15:05. Paul Wellman (15:49) and Erich Ackermann (15:51) finished second and third. Davis saw it’s own Larry Schwartz (16:19) and Orlando Velazquez (16:21) finish 4th and 5th overall, respectively. In the women’s 5K, it took Santa Rosa’s Nika Bowen just 16:48 to reach the finish line for her win; second and third went to Kimberly Cloud (Turlock, 17:58) and Pam Runquist (Davis, 18:06), respectively. Viechi Rodriguez (19:04) finished 6th overall and was the second fastest Davis female finisher.
