5K Team Competition
New for 2007!
Running/walking may be an individual sport, but we want to make it as team-oriented and as fun as possible.
We are introducing a 5K Team Competition as part of our 20th Annual festivities. There is no additional fee to enter as a 5K team, and all entrants on teams remain eligible to win individual age group awards in the 5K. 5K Team entrants start with the 5K Run/Walk at 8:20am and teammates do not have to start or finish together. Divisions in the team competition are as follows:
TEAMS OF TWO:
- Pair (Two Men, Two Women, Mixed Sex)
- Student (Elementary, Jr High (7-8), High School (9-12) and College
TEAMS OF THREE or more:
The team competition is a great way for you and a friend, family member, roommate, running buddy or coworker to participate in the Turkey Trot together. Teams will be scored based on a combined time (best three times will score for corporate teams with >3 entrants). Best of all, the top three teams in each category will be awarded some great prizes.
How To Enter: 1. Grab a buddy (or two) and form a team. Pick your appropriate division and a team name. 2. Complete the entry form (one form per teammate) and submit. Be sure to indicate your team division and team name. Submit the team entries together (either via mail or at Fleet Feet). 3. Join us on Nov. 17th!
5K Team FAQs:
Q. My husband and I would like to create a team in the Mixed Sex division. However, he’s going to run the 5K, and I’m going to walk. Is that OK?
A. Yes. The only requirement is that you both are entered and participating in the 5K Run/Walk at 8:20 a.m. It does not matter how fast you go.
Q. How will the scoring work?
A. For the teams of two (pairs), the team time will be the sum of the two teammates individual times. For example, if teammate #1 finishes in 30:01, and teammate #2 finishes in 20:21, the team time will be 50:22. For the Corporate division (teams with 3+ members), the time will be based off the best three times posted by that team. Therefore, if there are 10 members on the team, the computer will automatically take the three fastest times, sum them, and that will be the team’s time. Teams with exactly three members will have a time based on the sum of those three finish times.
Q. I have run the 5K at the Turkey Trot for several years now. If I join a team, how will that change things for me?
A. It won’t change anything. You will still be eligible for age group awards. You will start and finish like you always have. There is no additional cost. The only difference is that you and your teammate(s) will have a team time posted at the event.
Q. Why are you hosting the team division?
A. We think it will be a fun way for friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and schoolmates to participate in the event together.
Q. Can we form a team if one of us is doing the 5K stroller race and the other the 5K Run?
A. No, unfortunately all team entrants must participate in the 5K run/walk at 8:20 am.
Q. Is there an additional fee to form/join a team?
A. No. Each teammate pays the regular individual entry fee.
Q. Will there be team awards?
A. Yes. The top three teams in each division will receive prizes.
Q. Do I have to run with my teammate(s)?
A. Nope. You can each go at your own pace.
