Kids Triathlon to Host 450 Kids at Community Park
DAVIS, CA – The last splash of the summer is taking place this weekend at Community Park: The Davis Kids Triathlon will be held on Sunday morning at Community Pool. The triathlon is designed for children ages 5 to 14.
Held in the traditional triathlon format, athletes will participate in three consecutive sports in the following order – swimming, biking and running. The event was created with the child in mind; three identifiable sports with achievable distances.
The inaugural Davis Kids Triathlon was held in June 2002 with great success. 300 kids participated in the event – every single one of them finishing – and had a great time. Event organizers anticipate 400 kids to participate in each Davis Kids Triathlon this year. After much success with the June 29, 2003 triathlon, a second event will be held this Sunday, August 17th.
The Davis Kids Triathlon will be held at Community Park, the largest park in Davis, which offers the perfect staging area for the triathlon. The swimming portion will be held in Community Pool; the bike and run courses will take place on the bike paths within the park. Swim, bike and run distances are specific to each two-year age group.
Upon reaching the finish line, each participant will be greeted by a cheering crowd; food and fun kids activities also await them. This will include a giant inflatable slide, a jump house, a Chevys Fresh Mex chips and salsa, Noah’s Bagels, Propel Fitness Water and fresh fruit. The Davis Kids Triathlon will benefit FamiliesFirst, a non-profit organization in Davis that is dedicated to bettering the lives of children and their families with respect, care and cultural sensitivity. Race Day registration for the Davis Kids Triathlon will be accepted on Sunday for $33.00 per child. This includes a colorful event t-shirt, custom water bottle, goodie bag, race day entertainment and an Official Finisher’s Medal. On race morning, the oldest age division (13-14 years) will start first at 8:00 a.m., followed by the younger divisions: 11-12 years; 9-10 years; 7-8 years and lastly 6 & Under. All waves will be complete before 10:15 a.m.
The Davis Kids Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. USA Triathlon is the governing body of the sport of triathlon.
