Greetings from A Change of Pace!

It's March, which means that spring will be here shortly and so, too, will be a flurry of running and walking events in the greater Sacramento area. For some of us, it's almost time to make the transition from running tights to running shorts. For others, the shorts were never on hiatus. Either way, springtime will be here soon.

This month, mark your calendars for the Nutrition Fuels Fitness 5K and 10K run/walk in Elk Grove on Saturday, March 27th. This first annual event is being co-produced by A Change of Pace and will feature flat, safe and fun 5K and 10K courses as well as two kids' fun runs (1/2 and 1/4 mile). The California Dietetic Association's local chapter is helping organize the event to create awareness about childhood obesity, and to provide parents and families with information on the subject in a fun and supportive atmosphere. The run is being held in conjunction with the 2nd annual Family Fun Day at Elk Grove Regional Park. More information and registration links are available online - click here to link. .

In looking ahead towards April, May and June, many of you will literally be switching gears for a taste of the multi-sport scene. The debut of triathlon at the 2000 Olympics Games brought about a surge of interest in the sport. With this year's Olympics taking place in August, the fever may once again be rampant. So to get you in the spirit and mood, we encourage you take part in this summer's pinnacle event, the Donner Lake Triathlon.

The Donner Lake Triathlon, which happens to be one of the oldest, more challenging and most unique events in the country takes place July 17th & 18th. Though it may be hard to imagine bikes riding up the pass after last week's snow, we assure you that when July rolls around, all we'll be seeing is the green trees, blue skies, thousands of bike wheels situated in the West End Beach's main parking lot. Despite the challenging terrain, the events have a distance for both the serious competitor as well as those of you taking your first look at triathlon. Saturday's Donner Lake Sprint Triathlon features shorter race distances (1/4 mile swim, 6 mile bike, 2 mile run) than it's Sunday counterpart, but the views, the atmosphere, the fresh mountain air, the post-race festivities and the race atmosphere will be just as great. Sunday's International Triathlon includes longer distances, as athletes will complete a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run before crossing the finish line and adding another finish at the Donner Lake Triathlon to their resume.

Registration is now available for both the Donner Lake Triathlons - please click here for more info. Also available are course maps, photos, triathlon club info, an FAQ section and more.

The Donner Lake Triathlon has sold out in each of the past three seasons and we anticipate another banner year. We encourage you to secure your spot soon as they will be going as fast as our cyclists coming down Old Highway 40.

Be sure to check out our website for a complete calendar of upcoming running, walking and triathlon events in Northern California. We look forward to seeing you at an event soon!
