THIS ONE'S FOR THE KIDS - 3RD ANNUAL DAVIS KIDS TRIATHLON

The Davis Kids Triathlon is a challenging yet achievable event for any child who enjoys outdoor events. It is a perfect introduction into the three-sport world of triathlon. The 3rd Annual Davis Kids Triathlon will take place at the brand-new Schaal Aquatic Center at UC Davis on August 15th. Any child ages 4-17 who can swim, bike and run can participate in the event - no triathlon experience is necessary. The Distances are determined by the age of each child and have been kid tested for skill level in each of the past two seasons. The field limit for this year's event is 600 kids. We expect to reach capacity prior to event day. Keeping this in mind, we encourage parents to plan to register their kids by August 9 to guarantee a space. Once we reach capacity, registration will be closed and any entries beyond the limit will be returned.

Entry fees are $30 through August 14th; a sibling discount is also available. Entry fees include a colorful 100% cotton race t-shirt, custom Davis Kids Tri water bottle, custom finisher's medal, a certificate for a free kid's meal at Chevys Fresh Mex restaurant in Dixon, post-race food, commemorative bib number, and tons of fun.

RIVER CITY WOMEN'S TRIATHLON

The River City Women's Triathlon will be held on Sunday, August 29th at Discovery Park (just 5 minutes north of Downtown Sacramento). This unique triathlon for women features a downstream 500 yard swim (0.28 miles), an 11 mile flat bike course, and a flat 3 mile run. These distances were created with the first-time triathlete in mind and are very achievable. This course has also proven to be fun and competitive for the more experienced triathlete.

This first-class production will be held in beautiful Discovery Park. The swim in the American River is primarily downstream and water temperature in late August is traditionally around 70 degrees. Only about 1/2 of our participants opt to wear a wetsuit. The bike course is a two-loop course that takes place within the park and on a closed portion of Garden Highway. This course is flat and fast with few major turns. The run course takes place on the paved Jedidiah Smith Bike Trail (part of the American River Parkway) within Discovery Park. This tree-lined 3 mile course is primarily out-and-back and will include one water station at the turn-a-round point. Upon reaching the finish line, participants are greeted with music, food, booths, and camaraderie.

HIT THE TRAIL for Charity, Fun and FRESH MEX!

This year the CHEVYS FRESH MEX RUN returns to the River City with two fresh & newly designed 5K & 12K courses (USATF certification pending). This year's event will take place on Saturday, September 18th. In an effort to simplify parking and create uniformity among the two courses, both start lines will be located at Discovery Park. Past participants who enjoyed the trail portion of the 12K can be assured that the course will still feature much of the same trail as before. Course entertainment and incentive locations have been re-instated and the grand finish will still remain on Garden Highway directly in front of the Chevys Fresh Mex restaurant.

Course Features and Incentives: The Chevys Fresh Mex Run is unlike any other running event in the region. It is fun, competitive (if you want it to be) and entertaining. Aside from new course route, the 2004 event will feature incentive points and entertainment areas along the route. Best of all, the race concludes with a complimentary Fresh Mex lunch for all participants plus all the chips and salsa you can eat!

Registration is now available by mail or online; visit www.changeofpace.com for an entry form, course maps, start times, etc. Registration will be available at all Sacramento area Chevys Fresh Mex restaurants starting on August 6th.

GOT MUD?

On Saturday, September 25th, A Change of Pace will assist in the production of the 5th Annual Mather Field Mud Run. This fun and frankly - muddy - event will be held at Mather Sports Complex (formerly Mather Field Air Force Base) off Hwy. 50 in Rancho Cordova. The event offers individual and team competitions in it's 5 mile and 2 mile courses. Participants will be challenged by numerous obstacles along the course, including crawling tunnels, walls, hay bales, tires, a sand pit and of course, the infamous mud pit. Event organizers expect over 2,000 participants for this year's event. This is one race you have to see for yourself! Information on the event, including lots of photos from previous years, is posted on www.changeofpace.com.
