17th Annual Davis Turkey Trot will Help Feed Yolo County’s Hungry
DAVIS, CA, November 1, 2004 – Nearly 16,000 people seek food assistance each month in Yolo County. The Food Bank of Yolo County needs help to provide nutritionally sound meals for these people which include the mentally ill, the elderly on fixed incomes, children in emergency shelters, low-income families trying to make ends meet while paying for unexpected costs and people who are homeless for a myriad of reasons.
For every participant who runs in the 17th Annual Davis Turkey Trot, three pounds of food will be provided to the hungry thanks to a partnership between the Davis Turkey Trot and the Food Bank of Yolo County. On Saturday, November 20, the downtown streets and greenbelts of Davis will be filled with nearly five thousand runners, walkers and spectators taking part in this annual event.
For the last sixteen years, the Davis Turkey Trot has carved quite a niche in the Yolo County-greater Sacramento community. The Turkey Trot has grown to include not one, but five individual events and includes something for the entire family. These include a 5K Baby Jogger/Stroller race, certified 5K (3.1 miles), and 10K (6.2 miles) run/walks. Rounding out the day is the Davis Turkey “Tot” ¼ and ½ mile fun runs, presented by UC Davis Children’s Hospital, for kids ages 1-12. The Turkey Trot Expo includes refreshments, live music, vendor booths, raffles, and a "kids only" Children’s Miracle Network Interactive Play Area filled with inflatable jumps, games, face painting, balloon artists and arts & crafts.
Events begin at 8:00 am with the 5K Baby Jogger/Stroller event. The 5K Run & Walk follows at 8:20 am; the 10K run starts at 9:00 am. Concluding the morning are the Turkey “Tot” Kids Runs at 10:30 am. All events start and finish at Civic Center Field on B Street in Davis.
Early entry fees (by Saturday, 11/6) are $22 for adults/$12 for kids. Entry fees for the 5K/10K increase on Nov. 7th to $25. Davis Turkey Trot brochures can be obtained by visiting local retailers, including Fleet Feet Sports in Davis. Entry fees include entrance to the race, an Official Race T-shirt, race day refreshments, and eligibility for special offers and raffles provided by event sponsors.
