Dear Participant,

Spring has officially set in and the weather is now becoming ideal for all types of outdoor activities. As many of you are planning your upcoming event schedules, you are probably scheduling your summer vacation plans as well. In producing the annual Donner Lake Triathlon, many of our participants and their families have used this event as a combo event and mini vacation. Donner Lake is truly a destination spot that lies in one of the more beautiful settings in the Sierra’s. Truckee, California has become more than just a mid-point stop to both Reno and Lake Tahoe. When the snow melts, the town has a completely different look and feel to it. Although many view the town as a great place to ski in the winter, some are not aware of the abundance of its summer outdoor activities. These activities include hiking, mountain biking, running, cycling, kayaking, swimming, camping, waterskiing, fishing, and simply relaxing by the lake.

For those who have competed in the triathlon before, I’m sure you’ll agree that there are few places that compare to the setting and relaxing atmosphere. As organizers of the event, we feel fortunate to produce the triathlon in a town so perfect for outdoor activities. Should you join our growing field of participants, do keep in mind that Truckee offers something for the entire family.

Donner Lake Triathlons
This year we hope you will join us in celebrating the 24th Annual Donner Lake Triathlon. Held in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Truckee's Donner Lake, this triathlon features one of the most scenic bike and run courses in Northern California. Combine that with clean, clear water for the swim, an organized event from start to finish, we know that this will be one race you will be reminiscing about all summer long.

Don't wait too long to register: the next registration deadline is April 15th. We are also offering discounts for triathlon clubs, Truckee residents and 2004 registered participants, some of which expire on the 15th. Don't delay!

The events include a sprint triathlon on Saturday, July 16th and an International distance triathlon on Sunday, July 17th. You can participate in either event as an individual or on a 2 or 3 person relay team. Both courses swim in Donner Lake, climb Donner Summit on the bike and offer lake views during the run. Distances are as follows:

Sprint Tri: 1/4 Mile Swim, 6 Mile Bike, 2 Mile Run. Elevation climb/descent on bike: about 1000 feet.

Int'l Tri: 1.5K Swim (0.9 miles), 40K Bike (24.8 miles), 10.5K Run (6.5 miles). Elevation climb/descent on bike: about 1200 feet.

Each day, finishers will be treated to a complete post-race meal, music, same-day results & splits posting, and free massage. Yes - you read that correctly. The massages are free, courtesy of Reno's Ralston School of Massage.

Davis Kids Triathlon

Sunday, August 14th is the date that many kids ages 4-17 will be looking forward to all summer long. It will be the 4th presentation of the Davis Kids Triathlon. This event is unprecedented in the area. Ranked as the largest kids triathlon in California last year, we entertained over 600 participants in 2004 and loved every minute of it. This year we don't want to have to turn as many kids way because the event is sold out - so we have increased the field limit to 1,200. (We still do, however, expect to sell out). Reaching this will mean that not only will twice as many kids have the opportunity to participate, but the Davis Kids Triathlon will be the largest kids triathlon in the USA. The event takes place at the newly built Schaal Aquatic Center at UC Davis.

The Davis Kids Triathlon is build upon three important tenets:

  • · The event is achievable for almost any child, regardless of triathlon experience or athletic ability.
  • · The event promotes self esteem by emphasizing finishing the event, not finish time.
  • · The event is both safe and fun.

For more information, or to register, visit ttp://www.changeofpace.com/2005_davis_kids_triathlon.html. Entry fees are $30 for one child and $25 for each additional sibling through June 30th.

Davis Youth Baseball Camp

Designed for boys or girls ages 5-12, the Davis Youth Baseball Camp (DYBC) focuses on a positive approach with emphasis placed on rapid skill development that is age and skill level appropriate. Daily camp activities include batting, fielding, base running, stretching, and games. Snacks are provided to campers daily along with a camp t-shirt, water bottle, cap and ticket to a Sacramento RiverCats game. The camper to coach ratio is 8:1. Many of the co-coaches are members of the UC Davis Baseball team.

DYBC is limited to 100 campers and has sold out every year since it began in 2002. Therefore we strongly encourage early registration. The camp registration fee for one child is $195 through May 1st. You can download an entry form from our website at: http://changeofpace.com/2005_davis_youth_baseball_camp.html

Our Website
Aside from race information for our owned/managed events, as well as race results for events that we time, our website includes several race calendars and club/training information for Northern California & Reno. Our newest calendar features running and triathlon events that are designed specifically for kids ages 1-17.
