August 7th marked the tenth anniversary of the renown California Kids Triathlon. As one of the first kids-only triathlons to take place, the event has stayed with its' roots as an atmosphere that promotes finishing over finish time, and a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere. 550 finishers at this year's event walked away with a medal around their neck and a huge sense of accomplishment. Read more about this years event on our blog, view race results, check out our photos, or better yet the professional images captured by brightroom.com. You can watch the news segments from KOVR 13 or KCRA 3, or simply mark your calendars for next summer when we'll return on Sunday, August 5th, 2012.
This event is designed for any child, ages 4-17, regardless of athletic ability or prior triathlon experience. The courses and distances werecreated to be achievable for all athletes. The philosophy behind the event is Completion rather than Competition. We want all our young triathletes to walk away from the event with a sense of pride in knowing that they completed a triathlon. In doing so, the focus of the event is NOT on finish times, placing, etc. Every child receives a custom medal when they cross the finish line. Although there are trophies for the top three finishers (boy/girl) per age division, there is no awards ceremony.
